By abruptly cutting off one side, I wanted it to express the idea of spirit being both here and not here. Motion. Stillness. Omnipresence.
LINGERING
Weighted and weightless, always present.
Perhaps the more we let ourselves see, the more we see.
ANCESTOR FLAG
Passing back and forth between worlds. The flag symbol is a recurring motif for me--such an ancient human form of expression that I find extremely emotional.
GONE HOME
This is the 3rd piece in my Worship Your Ancestors series. It's is about losing people that you love, the soul floating upward, and the delicate cycle of life that is both heartbreaking and beautiful.
COLLECTIVE MEMORY
This piece is my 2nd in the Worship Your Ancestors Series.
The fragments of artifacts and relics unearthed from the past feel like the skinniest thread to some ancient race memory I can't quite reach, even as it continues to live and breathe all around me.
OLD SOUL
I was looking to create a feeling of a strong, otherwordly presence with this piece--powerful but also tender.
ANCESTOR SHIELD
The shield is one of those timeless symbol shapes that can be found in most cultures. I was looking to create a protection image using an image I created by adapting a gravestone rubbing I did in New England 25 years ago.
This piece is the first time I've combined my digital work on metal with my silkscreening.
PROTECTION SHIELD
The iconic power of the shield.
PERPETUAL CARE
This piece is the first in a series that I'm calling "Worship Your Ancestors." Since both my parents have passed away, I think much more about the cycle of life, spirit, ritual, and shared memory.
Fly Away
We hold our kites as they pull themselves skyward.
BETWEEN WORLDS
This piece is about spirit and the shifting space between what we think of as "reality" and, perhaps, a bigger reality.
